JR Seaton eases us into spring with an amazing mix of bliss and beats.

Off Relish Records (Started by Robi Insinna - aka Headman and Manhead) and currently living in Berlin, where he runs the fortnightly NUKK NUKK parties and the record label Nocturnes. Seaton finds it difficult to take boundaries seriously despite the impact they may have on peoples lives and understandings (be it the real ones between nations, or the imaginary ones between musical styles).

"I like stuff that I can see, touch, or engage with - synthesizers, records, and forceful expressions of anger or pain. I like dust, mess and mistakes."

Seaton grew up primarily in London and has hung his hat in the likes of Glasgow and Andalucia. While continuing to write music and dj he is very interested in the spaces between ideas and understandings...deep shit for ser!

"I get excited by people who take a risk with their work and have some kind of vision. I love a lot of different stuff and like to sit between contrasting places and feelings. It's the tension between these things that keeps things interesting."

Crystal Fighters

French fashion and music label Kitsuné boasts a lengthy laundry list of electro indie rock giants, among them Boys Noize, Bloc Party, the Whitest Boy Alive, Hot Chip, and many others. So it should come as no surprise that Spain's Crystal Fighters, a folktronic band that cleverly combines Basque folk instruments with drum loops, heavy synths, lilting vocals, and a rocking stage show happily joined their ranks in 2008. Only it took me just a few days ago to find out who they were and to have their sound completely envelop me, thanks to a random video on vimeo featuring their track At Home. Better late than never they say and in this case im thankful. enjoy the folktronic sounds of Crystal Fighters.

MOOMBAHTON

"Moombahton is mid-tempo global bass music for the universe. It's a sonic marriage of electronic dance music (house, techno, and dubstep) with latin/island music (reggeaton, cumbia, and dancehall) that flows at a pace of about 108 beats per minute. Originally, moombahton started by Dave Nada slowing down tropical and dutch house records and re-edited them to sound like reggaeton's weird little cousin. Because the tempo nears that of reggaeton, Nada created the neologism "Moombahton" by combining the title of the track "Moombah" by DJ Chuckie & Silva Cuomo and the "ton" ending of the word "reggaeton" and applied it to the new genre. Moombahton continues to grow worldwide as producers and DJ's push the music in exciting new ways."

"The Simpsons has always been subversive, but last night, the animated show took that to a new level by airing a dark, extended opening title sequence—created by UK graffiti artist Banksy—that depicted Asian workers laboring over Simpsons animation and merchandise. My sincerest apologies for not getting all you fine people the fixes you've been fixin' for but I'm back for good to continue to cook you up and serve you some fine fixin's.

I thought it would be appropriate to return with some Duck Sauce since that was the last ness i left yous with. A-trak and Armand Van Helden are back with a new infectious jam humorously titled Barbara Streisand. The sound is everything you've come to expect from the quacks; super retro, disco house ness. P-Thugg of Chromeo fame lends his vocodor and synth touch and DJ Premier lays down some cuts. SER EPIC. The video is real well done and features cameos from some big names including Chromeo, Mehdi, ?uestlove, Clipse, Pusha T, Team Facelift's Big Fat Jew, and some others. So recently, some steamy pictures of my homeboy - and The Virgins' guitarist - Wade Oats and sexy LDN singer Lily Allen (allegedly) violently making out. The two met at the Fuji Rocks festival in Japan, and apparently were immediate attracted to each other. Allen, who is typically linked to much older, more "successful" men, is known to have shacked up with Chemical Brother Ed Simons (39), record exec Seb Chew, and art dealer Jay Jopling (45), while Wade has been linked to Boomtown Rats' frontman Bob Geldolf's daughter Pixie Geldof (20).

In light of the Allen/Oates hook up, people have been quick to report that Wade is actually married (according to his Facebook account, haha)!. I mean, as far as I know, it's not really true.

Finally, the preview for the super-anticipated new installment of classic Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, the Royal Tenenbaums, the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and the Hotel Chevalier and the Darjeeling Limited series) cinema has reached the internet - and I'm sure I'm a few days behind. So 'the Fantastic Mr. Fox' is a children's novel (by the equally fantastic Roald Dahl) turned stop-animation film, which tells the story of a mischievous fox (played by George Clooney) puts together a team of furry friends (played by an assortment of great actors including Bill Murry, Anjelica Huston, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, et. al.) to stop a team of farmers who are intent on stopping Mr. Fox. Trust me, my writing is much more confusing than the actually plot of the movie.

Bennett, a long time solo artist, highly sought after studio artist, and former member of bands such as Titanic Love Affair and Wilco passed away this morning after complications from hip surgery. Jay famously and publicly feuded with Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy about the direction of the band he helped make famous was headed. After being pushed out of Wilco, Bennett went on to release five solo and collaboration albums, and produce Blue Travelers eighth album. His final effort Whatever Happened I Apologize was released via the internet in November 2008. His contributions to the musical world will be missed. The ever-present Gorillaz recently dropped Bananaz, a documentary a long time in the making. From the days of Y2K to roughly when I was supposed to graduate college, filmmaker Ceri Levy followed and toured with Gorillaz collaborating with this unique foursome and creating amazing footage of behind the scenes action, original artwork, animations and music. The film also features appearances by a few of the many Gorillaz collaborators over those 6 years, including: Dennis Hopper, De La Soul, Ibrahim Ferrer, Dangermouse, Dan the Automator, D12, Booty Brown and Neneh Cherry. First screened at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 to rave reviews, Bananaz recently became available to the masses via our good friend the internet, and you can watch all 92 minutes of it thanks to Babelgum.

His series of seven videos released earlier this month, compiles youtube clips of musicians who have never met one another and mashes them together. During some random searching on YouTube one day, I stumbled across a young gentleman by the name of Ronald Jenkees. From a young age Ronald has just gotten keyboards, he received his first one as a christmas present when he was 6. He didn't take to music lessons well, and instead simply taught himself how to play, all simply by ear. This man, who appears to me to be some sort of 'mad scientist' or just downright genius, creates a variety of music ranging from techno to rock & roll with his trusty keyboards and a computer. Here are a few tracks from his 2007 self-titled album as well as some video action of him playing at home!

What do you get when Hippies, Environmentalists, and Asians come together? A videogame experience that is so far beyond me that my mind could never fathom anything like it. Flower is a visual, audio, interactive escape for the PS3 developed by California based thatgamecompany. It was released February 12th of this year to a warm reception and is available as a download through the Playstation Network. The gameplay is very simple it takes advantage of Sony's sixaxis motion controls in the PS3 controller which allows you to control a flower petal, guiding it with a gust of wind through blighted, brown landscapes. As the petal touches other flowers, you gradually bring the landscape back to life and trees, grass burst into color. Confused? Doesn't sound much like a videogame? Your right but this is 2009 and that world you brought "life" to with that one petal soon becomes very industrial. This game is more than a game its about climate change and about changing and improving the situation which in turn makes you feel quite good over how you've renewed life that was destroyed by industrialization. Very 2009.

Remix My Gorillaz?

In 2005 Gorillaz put out their exciting sophomore album Demon Days, featuring awesome electro-pop beats, spacey mellow raps, and even an ongoing story about a fictional group of people who worship a giant mountain called Monkey. Then in late 2007, the Gorillaz boys: 2D, Russel, Noodle and Murdoc released D-Sides, a nice compilation of 23 tracks from the Demon Days recordings. Most of the songs on D-Sides are simply tracks that didn't make the final cut, or alternate versions of songs that made the album, but the others are a fair number of remixes from the likes of Soulwax and Hot Chip. While these remixes might not be club bangers tearing up the dance scene, they are cool and groovy takes on some of the better songs from a great album. Nothing like a little good old punk rock to liven your mood after yet another dismal valentine's day, right? Teenage Heart, rockin out of Asheville North Carolina, are here to mend that damaged psyche. These five guys are silly, heavily tattooed dudes who want nothing more than to give you a great show, and maybe even make you laugh a little along the way. Inspired by the likes of Blackflag, Facetoface, The Descendents and Alkaline Trio, Teenage Heart does their very best to bring you enjoyable tunes with a little post-teen angst that are short, sweet and to the point with sometimes downright ridiculous lyrics. Unfortunately this great little band has recently broken up to pursue other musical heights, which I realize sort of makes this 'new' post obsolete... I just figured people outside of the general Asheville area should hear these guys and enjoy some good tunes. Here are three great tracks from their one and only album, Friends with Benefits, which is available on iTunes for a mere $7.

Estelle Bennett, former member of the legendary 60s girl group The Ronnettes and sister of Ronnie Spector, has died at her home in New Jersey at the age of 67. Estelle leant her vocals to the 1964 hit Be My Baby which is regarded by many to be one of the greatest pop songs of all time; John Lennon and Brian Wilson concur. Also, on their track Baby, I Love You, Leon Russell is featured on the Piano and Cher lends her voice to the tune. Their success is mostly attributed to their producer Phil Spector, who was a pioneer of the 60's girls groups. The Ronnettes had a "bad girl" image thanks to their beehive hairdids, dark eye liner, and tight skirts. The 60's girl groups have a great influence on me and its sad when anyone of the greats passes. Estelle you will be missed.

so as you clearly have already noticed, the name of this post is "Who the F is SantoGold?" one may ask, "what kind of question is this? have the guys at ECO been living under a rock for the past year and a half, that they don't know who SantoGold is?" well here is the answer to your inquiries. the artist responsible for such '08 hits as the oh-so-popular banger L.E.S. Artists, Creator, Shove it, Lights Out, and many more has officially changed her recording name to SantiGold - clever, huh? Santi has even gone so far as to have already changed her myspace page - although santogold.net is still up and running under the old name.
it may seem like such a pointless name adjustment. here's the story; Santo Gold - a.k.a. Santo Rigatuso - is a B-More-based jeweler/filmmaker/huckster, who apparently may only be known for this infomercial - according to pitchfork - or the 1985 seemingly hard-to-handle fighter/alien/wrestling movie Blood Circus.
honestly, with such confusion, I could see why she'd want to change her name. who would want to go around being confused for the guy from Blood Circus? my guess though, is that with this new name change, her music is also going to change drastically.

I suppose for many of you out there, this isn't exactly an introduction, as you may have seen her during her DJ days at Beatrice Inn, or maybe just hipstering around the city with the likes of Cory Kennedy or the Virgins. anyways, to celebrate the release of her Self-Learner EP, Ms. Trullie will be playing tonight at the Mercury Lounge, along with Linfinity - think Anthony & the Johnsons meets downtown New York; Frankopolis - who I haven't heard yet; and Paul and the Patients - who just sounds really cool. Lissy Trullie & the Fibs make music that reminds us that it's still cool to have fun while you're making music.

So for my first overdose post I figured I'd go with an oldie but goodie, Mickey Moonlight (aka Midnight Mike)'s version of Sun Ra's 'Interplanetary Music' just puts me in the best of moods. With great spacey sound and a killer saxophone solo mixed in, this track is the best to just lay back and enjoy the day to.
