Bounce to My BMX Complex

The quite mysterious Australian collective BMX are back with two new fresh demos for you riders since we all played out "Theme" and "War", even tho they're both timeless and "Theme" will forever be my jam. The sounds of these tracks have a more mature, organic sound to them but they still keep that bubbly synth feel and party friendly ness that had first turned us on. Keep tuned for more mysterious BMX news. Until then...

Enough of my yackin, what do you say, lets boogie.

Eyo Wade!

So recently, some steamy pictures of my homeboy - and The Virgins' guitarist - Wade Oats and sexy LDN singer Lily Allen (allegedly) violently making out. The two met at the Fuji Rocks festival in Japan, and apparently were immediate attracted to each other. Allen, who is typically linked to much older, more "successful" men, is known to have shacked up with Chemical Brother Ed Simons (39), record exec Seb Chew, and art dealer Jay Jopling (45), while Wade has been linked to Boomtown Rats' frontman Bob Geldolf's daughter Pixie Geldof (20).

In light of the Allen/Oates hook up, people have been quick to report that Wade is actually married (according to his Facebook account, haha)!. I mean, as far as I know, it's not really true.

Here are the famous pictures:

and look how well they clean up:

Calvin Harris is the Humanthesizer

Calvin is pure genious.
i heart synths.

Finally, the preview for the super-anticipated new installment of classic Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, the Royal Tenenbaums, the Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and the Hotel Chevalier and the Darjeeling Limited series) cinema has reached the internet - and I'm sure I'm a few days behind. So 'the Fantastic Mr. Fox' is a children's novel (by the equally fantastic Roald Dahl) turned stop-animation film, which tells the story of a mischievous fox (played by George Clooney) puts together a team of furry friends (played by an assortment of great actors including Bill Murry, Anjelica Huston, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, et. al.) to stop a team of farmers who are intent on stopping Mr. Fox. Trust me, my writing is much more confusing than the actually plot of the movie.
Other contributed voices include: Wes Anderson himself, Meryl Streep, Andrien Brody, Roman Coppola, Brian Cox, and Michael Gambon)

Anyways, here's the preview:

And here's to nostalgia:

Electric Zoo

New York and really the entire East Coast gets shafted when it comes to an electronic music festival. Europe and Asia have countless numbers of them and in Ibiza its electronic music fest year round. Sure we've got Camp Bisco, All Good, and all those wild Phish festivals but never anything that makes that bass bump. Lucky for us the Electric Zoo is coming to NYC this Labor Day with the likes of Busy P, James Murphy and Pat Mahoney, Armen Van Buuren, DJ Mehdi, Steve Aoki, and so much more to help us with our electro fix. Mark the date, get tickets, and prepare yourselves.

Back on the grind after the epic Camp Bisco 8 this past weekend. Im still in a bit awe and recovery mode is currently initiated. Duck Sauce

aahh what a shit show fun weekend at the Jersey Shore with the ocean, boat, vodka, the best company, but now my face is peeling thanks to that 0 SPF accelerator. A-trak never seems to take a vacation and just may in fact be the hardest working person in show biz right now, The kid hustles. Somehow he managed to hook up with House phenom Armand Van Helden during his busy 10,000 lb Hamburger Tour schedule to form Duck Sauce which as Trizzy says its him and Armand just making house tracks and hollering at ducks. The four track EP is slated to be released sometime in September, keep your ears tuned.

Pour Liquor

This week, the world has witnessed the loss of two great American icons...

Michael Jackson - B. August 29, 1958 - D. June 25, 2009

Farrah Fawcet - B. February 2, 1947 - D. June 25, 2009

... and this guy.

Billy Mays - B. July 20, 1958 - D. June 29, 2009

Most of you know him only as the OxyClean guy, but to me he's Billy Mays - the most energetic and inspiration person [formerly] on television.

Please join me in mourning this week's fallen heros.

ahhhhhh mash-ups and mixtapes. Terry Urban, the genius behind many mashup mixtapes featuring the biggest names in hip-hop, hooks us all up with the mixtape of the summer SouthernGold which features MC's from the south mashed with Santigolds debut album. Theres a bit of controversy surrounding the mixtape and Santi's hypocritical record label which issued a cease and desist order which officially shut the project down. Because this is 2009 you can't keep anything from circulating around the internet. Santigold has stated that she supports the mixtape culture and would like to see this as an official release. So if she wants you to hear it, hear it here and go tell Downtown Records to Shuv it. The summer of Hip-Hop continues.

Summer Jams

Theres something about hip-hop in the summer that attracts me like no other but i can't quite put my finger on it. Could it be The City streets and all the swagger on the corners, girls in their daisy duke shorts, bike rides to midnight shows in brooklyn, waking up naked and sweating and turning my swag on; i just dont know but the live music in the summer leaves my pockets thin, i dont mind tho cause it's a way of life.

These are the early summer jams, feel free to play these out.

Internet Week 2009

Internet Week is a week-long festival of events celebrating New York's thriving Internet industry and community. 2009's Internet Week officially kicked off June 1st and will go till June 8th. The week long celebration is filled with countless number of events, forums, music, food, and everything internet like. My biggest infatuation of all infatuations is the internet and this blog thing here wouldn't be possible without the internet and the idea of "open beats closed". If your around the city check the schedule and learn something.

a dose to follow...

Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do

Ahhhh jerseys boring without a car, So Longing to be back upstate away from this hustle and bustle no sense bull shit. Anyway MAJOR LAZER! Diplos new ness is the trueness. Kind of dancehall, kind of club, kind of surf rock, kind of reggae, kind of really fuckn good; "Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP." The track Hold the Line may sound familiar from the epic 2009 beach party dj set, the Santigold flow is just delicous. These are the summer jams.
"like damn woman you got me

like damn how you do it
whats that rhythm you got"

RIP Jay Bennett

Bennett, a long time solo artist, highly sought after studio artist, and former member of bands such as Titanic Love Affair and Wilco passed away this morning after complications from hip surgery.  Jay famously and publicly feuded with Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy about the direction of the band he helped make famous was headed.  After being pushed out of Wilco, Bennett went on to release five solo and collaboration albums, and produce Blue Travelers eighth album.  His final effort Whatever Happened I Apologize was released via the internet in November 2008.  His contributions to the musical world will be missed.  Read more and download his latest album plus some b-side Wilco tracks at Cover Lay Down.

The ever-present Gorillaz recently dropped Bananaz, a documentary a long time in the making.  From the days of Y2K to roughly when I was supposed to graduate college, filmmaker Ceri Levy followed and toured with Gorillaz collaborating with this unique foursome and creating amazing footage of behind the scenes action, original artwork, animations and music.  The film also features appearances by a few of the many Gorillaz collaborators over those 6 years, including: Dennis Hopper, De La Soul, Ibrahim Ferrer, Dangermouse, Dan the Automator, D12, Booty Brown and Neneh Cherry.  First screened at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 to rave reviews, Bananaz recently became available to the masses via our good friend the internet, and you can watch all 92 minutes of it thanks to Babelgum.

"Unconventional, uncompromising filmmaking of the highest order" said Chris Tilly of IGN

Free Blood

This is the 8th installment of the We Make It Good and The Fader Present series with Brooklyn's own Free Blood. If you haven't listened to Free Blood, do it and see them live if possible, shit is ridiculous.

“In the spirit of our occasional “non-dj” twist on the WMIG mix series, our buddy John from Brooklyn’s FREE BLOOD was kind enough to make us this awesome mixtape of influences, inspirations, and springtime newyorkness. Eddie Kendricks, Kid Creole, Freddie Mas; this “tape” harkens back to the high school days of yore when our mixtapes were top to bottom all full of awesome! Embrace the roughly polished sheen of FREE BLOOD and get to listenin at the listenin place!”

Passion Pit - Sleepy Head Neo Tokyo Style

Manners which drops May 19th, Mark it! is one of 2009's most anticipated albums after Sleepy Head dropped as a single in late fall. The albums been tightly wrapped up from the audio pirates but they're sneaky and leaked every bit of that piece earlier this week. Back to the sleepy head tip, theres been some poor attempts at remixing it as of late and i've been on the wait for a tolerable remix of this jam. Neo Tokyo does just that. They bring it into the club with electro thrash and glitch deliciousness that won't dissapoint. Neo Tokyo managed to transform this from an autumn late night wind down dance floor jam to pure summer body sweat.

everythings going to the beat

Daft Punk and Celluloid Disney

Yea Daft Punks cool and yeaa Disney films were cool until you reached whatever age it was that you realized that the sexual perverseness throughout the films is anything but subtle and how Mr. Walt himself was a closet bigot. Sorry about that ramble, Of recent days tho theirs been a bunch of new Daft Punkness that people are throwing around. Peep this...

Staying on the Daft Punkness this dude is good peoples. CHECK IT!
iDaft (by Matias Najle).

This interesting, entertaining video was found by the homie Luke who tuned it on to my eyes the other day, it shows clips of Disney characters from different movies doing the same routines, basically re-using the old celluloid films. Lazy's.
Press Play.
