Ghostwriters and Demos

We all know theirs only a few true mc's in the hip hop world and all the others need their shit written for them (talentless, why'd i spend my money on that album, corporate puppet fucks). Well low and behold the cats out the bag; Lil Kim has learned her flow and had several of her jams ghost written by none other then THE greatest MC ever, Frank the Deputy aka The Notorious BIG. Give em a hand ladies and gentlemen and give it up to The Rap Up and Bubhump for shining the light.

Biggie - Queen Bitch.mp3

On some other Biggie Smalls steez, Mr. Cees premiered this long lost Biggie demo on his radio show a few days ago. Since it is a radio rip its tagged up all over the place. The word out on the blogs is that this is the demo that got him signed and led to him eating the whole rap industry. Straight delicious. Also this will be polished up for the Soundtrack along with some other unreleased ness.

A Very Beat Christmas

The once annual christmas records the Beatles put out are as timeless as christmas itself and a lot more real then the fakest holiday marked on the calendar. These rarities are rare as rare can be and were originally only released to those in the Beatles fan club from 1963-1969. These mp3's have been buried deep in my never ending Beatles catolouge and today i'm sharing them with all of you as another east coast overdose exclusive. This is either your one christmas eve gift or your night 4 Channukah gift. Just call me Channukah Harry.
Merry Merry Christmas and Happy Happy Channukah.

REASON '08

At the end of every year, every blog/magazine/TV Station/etc. has their own version of an end-of-the-year-countdown, or best-of-'0-whatever year it is.  This year, URB Magazine has nominated my friends over at Reason Clothing for bragging rights as '08s Best Brand - among retail giants Nike, 10 Deep, Stussy, and New Era.  As a real fresh underdog from the city, they definitely deserve the win, so don't sleep; go vote.

And remember to stay tuned for that upcomg ECO Best of '08 list.

Glitter Penis

That curly haired handsome boy is none other than Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT fame with his highschool buddy Dan Treharne, together they form/formed Glitter Penis. Starting sometime in their highschool career the two teamed up and experimented with a bunch of different sounds; electronic, folk, pop, psychedlia, funk, ambient, noise; which definitly has had an influence with the MGMT sound. From 1998 thru 2001 they recorded about 30 odd tracks which were thrown together on two random albums and recently thrown onto the internet which you can download now for the first time in the history of the world right HERE. These tracks are historic and tons of fun to listen to so dont pass it up. Heres a taste of the delicious Glitter Penis.

Jasha Tull - Reckonerdz

(Photo courtesy of Princeton County Jail)

So, as some of you may know, some of us here at the ECO team went to Hartwick College - although somehow we all have managed to not graduate yet. Anyways, Hartwick is somewhat known for attracting the most out-of-their-minds crazy kids - present company included. Our freshman year, we had the pleasure of being classmates with one Jasha Tull, from PTown aka Princeton NJ, DJ - Princeton, New Jersey.
Jasha Tull was this crazy, tall, dreadlocked, freestylin motherfucker, who took Hartwick on like a hurricane. He left a legacy that will never be forgotten - mostly because of all the flashbacks.
Now, from PTown, DJ, Jasha emerges once again with his budding music career. Here, him and his buddy remix Radiohead's Reckoner. What's more, is that Jasha also produced this music video to go along.

So that was Jasha, now enjoy your dose of Reckonerdz. And remember, this is an East Coast Overdose EXCLUSIVE:

Kanye's Still Lame, But Santi and Lykke Li are Still the Shit

So, this is the first time - and hopefully the last time  - you'll ever catch me posting anything about Kanye, unless it's all badmouthing.  I HATE HIM.

Now that I've got that off my chest, take a listen to this newish track that's just dropped, featuring the aforementioned recording artist, Santi - a.k.a. Santogold - and the beautiful Lykke Li.  So far, there isn't too much buzz about the track going around.  However, I can tell you that the song will be features on the upcoming N.A.S.A. album The Spirit of Apollo.
So, don't sleep on this track - it's fire - don't sleep on N.A.S.A., don't sleep on Santi or Lykke Li, and Kanye can go fuck himself.

What a clown.

Whopper Virgins

Have you ever wondered what people in the far corners of the world who don't have t.v.'s or billboards around would think of a Big Mac or Whopper? Well, Burger King answered that question in their new documentary and what a well produced little film it is. I think im going to have them produce my film. And wait a second, isnt that Stacy Peralta? Yeaa it is.

My opinion in the Whopper vs. Big Mac debate... Big Mac hands down. The Whopper is way to sloppy but give me a Jr. Whopper over any other burger menu sandwhich for sure. Flame Broiled fools.

John Lennon's Real Love

It's been a John filled day but thats what happens when one of the greats is taken from us too early. This post is something i've been wanting to do and share for sometime now and today seems like an appropriate time to do so.
John Lennon's song Real Love which was ignored by Lennon and forgotten until the sixth take was used on the 1988 Documentary Imagine and was later re-imagined by the remaining Beatles as a tribute to Lennon and used fore the release of the Beatles documentary, is actually comprised of three original Lennon songs. I believe it all happened around 1977 with a hand held recorded at his home, Lennon began writing and as it happens with writing fragments arise and then are pieced together for the final completion. These three songs are Real Life, Baby Make Love To you, and Boys and Girls. This is some of John Lennon's realest and rarest work and i wouldn't take this post for granted. Download these songs, listen to them, cherish them, and keep them with you for long, long time. Put it on with the lights low for some lady and she might just want to marry you, use with caution. Just remember who hooks up for real for real.

Imagine Circle Recap

So last night myself, along with new New Yorker Josh Smalls, went to the Imagine circle to celebrate the life and death, and the music of the beloved John Winston Lennon.  As we stated yesterday, December 8th marks the day that Lennon was tragically taken away from us at the hands of a fucked up gunman.
Anyways, the crowd that came out - numbering anywhere between 50-75 or so people - was very lively.  A band came out to play numerous famous Beatles tunes, such as Anytime at All, I Am the Walrus, If I Fell - one of my personal favorite Beatles songs - Yer Blues, Things We Said Today, as well as many others.  It really goes to show you that even though New Yorkers - old and new - can get over their bullshit for a minute, rally together, and show some lover for a fallen soldier.
While I keep mourning/celebrating John, check out some of these old images from the Imagine circle I found around the internet:

Thank you for taking the time with us to remember.

John Lennon 1940-1980

"About the Awful

I was bored on the 9th of Octover 1940 when, I believe, the Nasties were still booming us led by Madalf Heatlump (Who had only one). Anyway, they didn't get me. I attended to varicous schools in Liddypol. And still didn't pass-much to my Aunties supplies. As a memebr of the most publified Beatles me and (P, G, and R's) records might seem funnier to some of you than this book, but as far as I'm conceived this correction of short writty is the most wonderfoul larf I've ever ready.

God help and breed you all."

_-John Lennon-_ In His Own Write

Out of all the musicians who have played in my ears none plays truer and louder than John Lennon. A true east coaster who made New York City his home and loved it more than any other place in the world. Very few people stand up for what they really believe in and John did just that and that made Richard "Tricky Dick" Nixon a very nervous person who would later have him deported from the city and the country he really loved. His collobaration with Paul McCartney became one of the greatest and most influential writing partnerships ever. Athough Paul was all pop, John was the real truth behind the two. His words touched upon so many of lifes ness' and are still relevant any day of the week and in any situation. You all know this already so Johns the shit basically and now to his doses...

R.I.P. Dr. Winston O'Boogie

Look, he's a New Yorker

Yesterday was another postless day, however, there was good reason for it.  Today - December 8th, 2008 - marks the 28 year anniversary of the assassination of John Winston Lennon by the crazy, cowardly Mark David Chapman.
Lennon - best known for his amazing music career with The Beatles, as well as stints with such bands as The Plastic Ono Band, and an extensive solo recording career - was also unfortunately (or fortunately) equally known for his "radical" activism.  Chapman - the fucked up, deranged Hawaiian that he was - decided Lennon was a sell out, and shot him.

Every year, Lennon's followers gather at the Imagine circle in Central Park, to rejoice and sing the many heart fealt tunes of John Winston Lennon.  Unfortunately I was working yesterday, and once again, I couldn't partake in the festivities, which is why I have some songs - not nearly enough though - as well as some of the new reports of Lennon's death.
So please, celebrate at home, or with loved ones; I'll be doing the same.

Rest in peace John.  We all love you, and miss you dearly.
Shine on.
