Fader and The Whiskey CMJ Party Recaps

Big doings this past saturday to end the almost week long CMJ extravaganza that took NYC by storm and myself by surprise. All week i was waiting to catch my crush Little Boots, whose no stranger to the East Coast Overdose, drop her innocuos haunting magical vocals right in front of me. Saturday came and i was by my lonesome at the Fort for the Fader and Levi sponsored party, double fisting the free SoCo and Bass Ale. Armed with my disposable camera i was ready for the floor. After taking my damp rain coat off, i managed my way to the front of the stage to watch the set up action. This short, pretty young thing in a blue sequence blouse and black tights was setting up a tenorion and of course it was none other than Victoria Hesketh aka Little Boots. Excitement ensued. And now ive lost my train of thought or maybe im just at a loss of words; obviously the latter.
Heres a Little Boot's photo dose:

I'd give you an audio dose but Little Boots would rather you peep her myspace and stream her music then have me give it to you for free. Also shes got a new free mix she put together for all of us to stay tuned with on her website so def check that.
Official Website

After Little Boots graced us with her presence, i needed a quick tobacco fix and then it was back inside for some more beverages and bathroom. Charles Hamilton aka that uptown boy with the soul flavor stood patiently waiting to take the stage and was chill enough to share a photo op with yours truly. Holler. Hadn't heard this kids flow before but once he started spitting i knew that so called hip hop revival-ness was in full effect.

After the shananigans at the Fort it was uptown to chill for a second and prepare for the free whiskey down at the 205 club. (Sorry i was just notified that i have to make the trip into the city tonight for fellow East Coast Overdose crewmember JustinJustinJustinJustin's birthday bash-ness. So ima speed this post up.) Highlights downstairs included the Hood Internet, Hot Pink Delorean, and VDRK.

Rcap of Last Night/Boys & Girls and sightseeing

So, last night was quite the adventure. For starters, just as I'm starting my night and meeting up with some good homies, I'm walking through the Columbia University campus - shout out to the upper west side - and who do I see kicking it on campus? None other than world-famous DJ/Remix artist A-Trak - a.k.a. Trizzy. I got to talk to him for a minute. He informed me that he was waiting for his French lit professor brother to get off work; we talked about how I got attacked by the Unibros - if you don't know what I'm referring to, you're listening to the wrong music - and that tonight he's DJing the 1 year anniversary of his record label Fools Gold. Happy birthday Foold Gold! The show's at Webster Hall tonight; tickets are $10. Don't miss out.

So continuing with my night last night, after hours of waiting around, my cronies and I finally made it down to the Girls & Boys party, DJ'd by such artists as Walter Meego, Ethan Kath - of Crystal Castles fame - Classixx - who were fucking awesome - and a bunch of other people I wasn't coherent enough to pay attention to. There were also a few noticeable faces in the crowd. At one point, I went out for a smoke, didn't have my lighter, and got a light from none other than Teenager Dorian Dumont - French people are cool.

And don't forget to check out the next installment of the Girls & Boys gatherings - p.s. it's the day after my birthday. This one is one you DON'T want to miss:(I know Schneids already posted about the Fools Gold party, I just wanted to show A-Trak, and some of the other famous faces some much-deserved love.)

In the good spirit of the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival, the good people over at 205 (even though they hate letting in men) are hosting THE WHISKEY party, presented to you by the folks over at such publications as Big Stereo & Subdrive,  Palms Out Sounds, Créme de la Créme, Meanred & Famous Friends, and will feature such artists as Little Boots, Walter Meego, Hot Pink Delorean and Roxy Cottontail, and mash-up artists extraordinaire The Hood Internet.

Happy Birthday Fool's Gold

Too tired to type interesting words after the Boy's and Girl's sponsored crystal castles after party at bar 13. good times. anyway i say boycott the CMJ late night shows tonight and come out and celebrate the birthday of everyones favorite record label, Fool's Gold. Happy happy birthday.

Note: id dose you all with a song or two but im not contending with my weak ass bandwith right now.

3 A.M. with Little Boots

Moss around 3 A.M. in the ShoeBox (Schneids © 1985)

"three A.M.! Doctors say the body's at low tide then. The soul is out. The blood moves slow. You're nearest to dead you'll ever be save dying. Sleep is a patch of death, but three in the morn, full wide-eyed staring, is living death! You dream with your eyes open. G-d, if you had strength to rouse up , you'd slaughter your half-dreams with buckshot! But no, you lie pinned to a deep well-bottom thats burned dry. The moon rolls by to look at you down there, with its idiot face. It's a long way back to sunset, a far way on to dawn..."
_- Ray Bradbury -_
(excerpt from Something Wicked This Way Comes ©1962)

Just got back from Long Island after shooting this ridiculous party and Bradbury's way of breaking down feelings and putting them to words is just work of pure genius. I find myself picking up this book every autumn because its reminiscent of early childhood-ness and you can seriously just smell his words there so discriptive. Also netflix the movie, its mad decent. So anyway im on the internet and Little Boots is back with a new youtube video, this time covering Planet Perfecto's, Bullet In the Fun. Still impatiently waiting for the E.P. to drop November 11th.

Peep it.

The Triumphant Return of Remix Thursdays

There's been a lot of buzz recently about BK hip hopper Webaffied.  This dude actually incorporates Justice's song titles in with his own hip hop interpretation.  To put it simply, 'Webbified Does it Justice' - pun intended.

Here's a dose of that fresh ish:

For more, check out The Hype Machine, they always have that fix.

The KING of Rocksteady :: 1938-2008

You see you have to understand what rocksteady really is before you can understand who the KING of Rocksteady really was. Before the likes of Bob Marley and Reggae music as we know it today, there was a fine gentleman by the name of Alton Ellis who rocked you sweet with his rocksteady grooves. A successor to Jamaican Ska, and a precursor to reggae, rocksteady was performed by Jamaican vocal harmony groups who played a much slower, more relaxed tempo then their Rude Boy Ska contemporaries; although the rude boy-ness was a big part of the rocksteady culture as well. The ska-style back beat and the emphasis on the offbeat carried over into rocksteady. The term originated from the rocksteady dance mentioned in Alton Ellis' club banger, "Rock Steady". Ellis succumbed to his battle with cancer October 10th,2008 in West London Town and is remembered by his 20 some odd children.

and whats a King without a Queen.
Phyllis Dillon - Don't Touch Me Tomato.mp3

Out of the many 2008 deaths this one tops the list for me. Ever since i was but a rude boy myself, my pops would always play those sweet reggae sounds, and as i came to appreciate music i discovered the almost infinite Trojan Record Compilations which compile every sub-genre of reggae music. Take some time out and browse the catalog and you can never ever go wrong with classic reggae-ness.

M.I.A. : I'm creating a baby!

So we all heard word that the lovely M.I.A. was engaged earlier this year to The Exit and Green Owl Records frontman Ben Brewer - word up to Hannah and her older brother Ben.  The singer/songwriter showed off her lovely lady lumps at Diesel's ridonculous xXx party this weekend here in the city.

When asked about the pregnancy M.I.A. - Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam - had this to say: "When I found out I was pregnant and 'Paper Planes' was in the iTunes top 10," [M.I.A. told Pitchfork], "it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week, and all my plans went out the window. And that's the can't make plans, and you can't say shit." - from

The couple is still unsure of the baby's name, gender, or the expected date of birth.  She has stated that she'll be really busy in the near future, dealing with her pregnancy, showing off her belly to her family and friends.  She's also in the studio - behind the scenes this time - working with her newly signed artist Rye Rye, whom she recently toured and collaborated with.

So for those of you who really thought Bonnaroo was her last gig ever, you can rest easy, knowing that she will be back in the future.

More to come coverage on the M.I.A. pregnancy, and more details from this story, check out

Diplo's a Radiohead Reckoner ::

Theres been this Reckoner remix project/contest going on for a second now and apparently Diplo's contribution was just a leaked demo that wasn't even finished. Most of you didn't even realize and voted quite a bit for it as an official mix. Heres the the final 2.0 version with a bit more clubness as only Diplo could do it and a few words by the man himself...
"a lil more clubworked in the end.. the original idea was to make the biggest drum break of all TIME! but then it got scarey.. so here is the tame kangaroo version.. also theres a very nice picture of me throwin up gang signs behind thom york."

ASchneids circa 1985.

"For some, autumn comes early, stays late through life where October follows September and November touches October and then instead of December and Christ's birth, there is no Bethlehem Star, no rejoicing, but September comes again and old October and so on down the years, with no winter, spring, or revivifying summer. For these beings, fall is the ever normal season, the only weather, there be no choice beyond... Such are the autumn people."
- Ray Bradbury -

The things that make Autumn Autumn.

2. Jumping into a freshly raked leaf pile.

Hef's Redefining What it Means to be a True Playboy

Los Angeles (E! Online) - It's really over.

Hugh Hefner confirms he and Holly Madison (28) are no longer.

"If she says it's over, it's over," Hefner tells me. "But like I've said before, she is the love of my life, and I expected to spend the rest of my life with her."

The Playboy mogul says the relationship started to crumble about six months ago when they learned he was unable to father a child with Holly.

"With my sperm count, it's not possible," Hefner explained. "I was willing but it was not possible… She'd like to be married and have children, but it's not in the cards here for me."

Where does that leave the other two Girls Next Door, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt?

Hefner says they're still romantically involved, but admitted, "the relationship with Kendra will be ending when she moves out, probably by the end of this year."

Hef ain't wasting anytime getting back in the saddle though.

In the last week, he's been spotted with 19-year-old twins Kristina and Karissa Shannon. "They very much want to be girlfriends and now under the present circumstance, they probably will become my girlfriends," Hefner says.

And they're not all he has to look forward to.

A college senior from Georgia whom Hefner identifies as Amy Leigh Andrews is alsowaiting in the wings. "She was testing here this past weekend," Hef says of the centerfold wannabe, "and she said she'd like to be a girlfriend, too."

The 82-year-old Hefner laughed, "I'm dancing as fast as I can."

Between you and me, it was about time. The bitch looked like she was 38 anyways.

The Mystery Jets love the girl next door too:
